Everybody form up for your combat patch
Today my unit did its combat patch ceremony. Unfortunately, I work from midnight to noon every day, and this ceremony was to be from 1730 to 1800. Between having to get dressed and walking to and from work, this was going to be a huge inconvenience right in the middle of my normal sleep time.
I mean, it's all great to get the patch and everything, but seriously - I wish we didn't wait over an hour for my commander to show up. He never showed, but he did send an email an hour after the appointed formation time that he wasn't going to make it. Being the Army, we actually waited in formation for that hour for him.
Also, I'm wondering why a phone call would have been so difficult.

Three times I trekked across base for a stupid ceremony to get my battalion's deployment coin. Three times sergeant-major never showed. I still don't have my coin. I think if someone tried to give it to me now I'd throw it right back at them.

I generally liked working night shift on my deployment, because I didn't have to deal with a lot of the BS that day shift people encountered. Also, we didn't have to experience the heat like many people. (I got off at 8 in the morning.) Middle-of-the-day ceremonies was definately one of the things I hated though.
