Everybody form up for your combat patch

Today my unit did its combat patch ceremony. Unfortunately, I work from midnight to noon every day, and this ceremony was to be from 1730 to 1800. Between having to get dressed and walking to and from work, this was going to be a huge inconvenience right in the middle of my normal sleep time.

I mean, it's all great to get the patch and everything, but seriously - I wish we didn't wait over an hour for my commander to show up. He never showed, but he did send an email an hour after the appointed formation time that he wasn't going to make it. Being the Army, we actually waited in formation for that hour for him.

Also, I'm wondering why a phone call would have been so difficult.

Packages from home

I like receiving mail. The packages I get from my family are usually pretty thoughtful and considerate. It really is a great morale booster to get stuff from people you know, and it's even pretty cool when friends of friends or even strangers send you stuff.

Well, at least most of the time. Today my platoon got a massive package of shaving cream and disposable razors. Not nearly as awesome as coffee and/or cookies.
